Featuring dual UV-resistant tinted flaps that create an insulating air pocket, this economical door-mount pet entrance seals out drafts while providing a versatile security cover operable from either side of the frame.

The Ideal Designer Series Ruff Weather Dog Door offers enhanced energy efficiency and all-weather protection through an innovative dual-flap design. Engineered for daily durability, this door keeps your home insulated while providing your pets with comfortable, independent access.

Dual-Flap Thermal Insulation
Featuring two flexible, tinted vinyl flaps that create an insulating pocket of air, this pet door significantly reduces thermal transfer and blocks drafts. The UV-resistant vinyl flaps prevent warping under direct sunlight, while integrated weatherstripping and bottom magnetic seals ensure a tight, reliable closure after every pass.

Durable Frame & Access Control
Built with a high-impact structural frame, this door self-frames into standard interior and exterior doors for a clean, secure fit. Each unit includes a slide-in locking cover to easily restrict pet access at night or when away from home.

Installation & Fit

  • Self-framing high-impact structural frame mounts into solid wood, hollow core, metal, or storm doors with frame thicknesses between 3/4" and 1-3/4".
  • Requires a precise door panel cutout using the provided installation template matching the specific frame size.
  • Dual tinted flexible vinyl flaps feature perimeter weatherstripping and bottom magnetic alignment strips to maintain a tight seal around the internal air pocket.
  • Includes a slide-in high-impact security cover designed with dual-sided channels to operate from either the interior or exterior face of the frame.
  • Standard DIY door installation completed using basic household tools (drill, jigsaw, tape measure, screwdriver) in approximately 30 to 60 minutes.

Best Suited For

Ideal for:

  • Standard interior or exterior doors with frame thicknesses between 3/4" and 1-3/4".
  • Budget-conscious homeowners seeking all-weather energy efficiency, featuring a dual-flap air pocket design that blocks drafts without the price tag of premium aluminum doors.
  • Sun-exposed entryways requiring UV-resistant tinted vinyl flaps that retain elasticity and resist warping under direct sunlight.
  • Pets ranging from cats and small dogs to giant breeds comfortable with lightweight, flexible dual-flap pass-through.
  • Homeowners wanting flexible access control with a sliding security cover that operates from either side of the frame.

Not ideal for:

  • Severe freezing climates or extreme high-wind environments requiring maximum insulation and heavy-duty aluminum frames: consider the Endura Flap Pet Door for Doors instead.

Where can I find replacement flaps?

Ideal Ruff Weather replacement flaps are sold individually, so if you would like to replace both flaps, change the quantity to two.

Is this a good door for large and small pets sharing?

Yes, the flaps are light enough for smaller pets to use. When ordering your Ideal Pet Door, it's best to base your size measurements on your pets' heights than their weight ranges. You should get a size tall enough for your tallest pet to use while installing it low enough for your shortest pet to step over.

I have a Golden Retriever that weighs around 70lbs. How do I know what size to get my pet? Should I purchase the Ruff Weather Dog Door Extra Large?

We recommend you take a look at our measurement guide; finding the right pet door has more to do with height than weight. You may need the Ideal Ruff Weather Dog Door Super Large depending on your pup's height.
