Should Pet Moms Celebrate Mother’s Day?
The world is full of many different kinds of moms, from strong mothers who work while raising their families to doting grandmothers who love their children and grandchildren. They all deserve love and appreciation, especially on Mother’s Day. But should pet moms get to celebrate Mother’s Day as well?
Since I am a pet mom myself, I obviously think so! Pet moms do just as much work as any other mom, and they deserve to be celebrated.
Still not convinced? Check out our list of some of the other reasons why pet moms deserve to be celebrated on Mother’s Day.
Our Pets Are Our Kids Too
Let’s face it—plenty of us view our pets as our children. They rely on us to take care of them, and in return, we receive plenty of love and affection. And despite what the naysayers believe, raising a pet is just as hard as raising a child. Instead of worrying about test scores, we’re worrying about training and socialization.
With all of the effort that goes into raising a furry companion, pet moms deserve to have a day of celebration as much as any other kind of mom.
Every Family Looks Different
For some families, the family pet is just that. However, for many others, Sparky the dog and Oreo the cat are integral members of the family. For families who treasure their pets to that degree, not appreciating the mothers who care for their pets feels like a disservice.
Celebrating With Pets Is Just More Fun
Celebrating pet moms means including your pets in your holiday festivities (though let’s face it, dogs improve every holiday). You can include your dog in your Mother’s Day tradition by making them their favorite treats or taking them on a fun family vacation.
If your dog or cat has a litter of their own, you can even take the opportunity to celebrate the furry mothers in your life with plenty of pets and some great pet gifts.
It’s Just a Holiday!
This might be a little controversial, but hear me out—maybe, at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter if pet moms are celebrating Mother’s Day. It’s just a holiday! There’s no law that says that you can only celebrate it one way. If you don’t think pet moms should be celebrated, that’s okay! Just keep it to yourself.
Ultimately, is it a crime if a pet mom gets a handful of flowers for taking care of her dog and cat? I don’t think so. Mother’s Day is about celebrating mothers of all kinds. And if you know a mother with a four-legged child, then it might be a good idea to get them some flowers. Or maybe a pet door that is perfect for the rainy springtime weather.
