Can Cats See Color?
Do you ever wonder what colors your cat can see? A common misconception is that cats can only see in black and white. Luckily, cats do not only see black and white and can see color, although what they see differs from what humans see.
Cats have many more rod cells than cone cells in their retinas. Rod cells are excellent for picking up activity in dim light. They also refresh more quickly and allow cats to track the quick movements of their prey or a toy.
Feline photoreceptors are most sensitive to blue-violet wavelengths, and semi-receptive to green shades. Their vision is similar to that of someone who is colorblind. They can’t tell the difference between greens, yellows, and reds. So they mostly see muted blues, yellow-ish greens, and grays.
