Yes, we do. We offer suggestions for how to install your pet door in various materials. Installing in metal doors, hollow core doors, and walls all require different materials and procedures.

I want to replace my existing pet door with a different door. What should I do?

Most of the time, you will have to expand or close up your opening to accomodate a brand new pet door.

The only way to know for certain if a replacement pet door would fit correctly into the existing hole in your door or wall would be to measure your current opening. Then look for a product that has matching dimensions on our website under the "Rough Cut Out" column under the tab "Size Chart."

How high should I put the pet door?

Pet doors must be installed at least 1" above the tallest part of the dog's back and at least 3" from the floor. Those measurements should be based on the flap dimension, not the pet door frame. 

We highly recommend measuring your pet to know exactly what measurements you need. Do not base your pet door size on weight. The height of the doggy door depends on the height of the doggy.

What do I need to install a pet door myself?

It depends on your pet door's installation type. For most doors, you'll need at least a jigsaw, caulk for sealant, and the appropriate sized drill bit to drill holes. Some brands send the correct inch drill bit with the pet door, so you don't need to have any hardware experience.

Installation requirements will also vary by location. A wall mount will necessitate heavy-duty tools, while a normal door can be done quickly by a handyman or as a DIY project.

Can I install a pet door for door by myself?

Yes! Most exterior door installations with a new pet door are relatively simple and straightforward. A door kit will come with some of the materials you need to install it, and most door sizes, especially smaller flap doors for small dogs, can be installed in less than an hour.

Things get more complicated when you're installing into metal doors, storm doors or glass doors, and screen doors. While still possible to do on your own, we recommend using a professional for anything that you aren't comfortable with doing yourself. 

Can I install a sliding glass door pet door by myself? 

If it is a panel, yes.

If you'd be cutting the patio door glass at all, we recommend you hire a professional. Installing doggie doors and cat doors in glass can be very dangerous and potentially damaging to your door. Sliding doors, whether single-paned or dual-paned, should be cut by a professional glazier.
