A pet door can be the perfect solution for busy pet owners and active pets. When pets are able to let themselves out, a range of issues are solved. The result is more independence for both the pet and the owner. Some of the benefits of pet doors include: • No longer having to schedule and plan around letting the pet out • No more sudden wake-ups in the middle of the night • Fewer messes to clean up in the home • More freedom and more exercise for pets While all those benefits sound great, some pets take to pet doors much more easily than others. Technology has changed the way that we do everything in the 21st century — including the way that we care for our pets. Microchipping is the process of having a tiny electronic chip inserted into your pet. This chip contains important personal data that can link the pet back to you, ensuring that you can easily reclaim your pet should it become lost. These chips can be read by special scanners. Most veterinarians, shelters, and rescue organizations have these scanners at their location. On most pets, the microchip is placed underneath the skin and between the shoulder blades. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, a hypodermic needle is used to implant the chip, and experts believe that it is about as painful as a typical vaccination.

If you had a dog, you'd want a "dog" door. Or, if you had a cat, you'd want a "cat" door. Since you own both, you'll want a "pet" door. Right? Well.... Not exactly. In actual fact what's important is that the pet door you're considering be a good fit for the pets you have. So don't pay any attention to the terms "dog door" or "cat door".
Just measure!
